Is this WEIRD or WHAT?

This has to be the strangest card I've ever created! It all started when I visited Lauren Bergold's Blog. She has created an incredible card with the "weirdest supply" she ever purchased. It's all part of the current challenge over at Shopping Our Stash.  We're suppose to fess up and use one of those strange products that we purchased because we just had to have it. Funky Yarn that I JUST 

HAD TO HAVE!

from my photos I JUST HAD TO HAVE this strange yarn. The truth is, I had to have not one, but TWO Skeins of this it (red and bluish). I loved the colors and textures of each and just knew I would use it. Well, it's been sitting in my stash for quite sometime...years in fact. So today I put it to use creating the peacock feathers for my rather strange looking peacock. I started by cutting a white piece of cardstock into a fan like shape using decorative scissors. Next I wrapped the fan with the funky yarn adhering it on the back. To create the peacock body, I hand cut the shape from white cardstock while looking at an image of a peacock on the internet. Next I used ink, colored pencils and a marker to add the detail.  I used dimensional adhesive behind the body and matted the peacock on black cardstock. Inside the card

It's time to play along with another Monday Muse challenge. This week Marion Vagg has a beautiful CAS card to inspire us. I loved every aspect of her card including the beautiful shades of color, the large bold white lettering, and the banner shape. So, I created a card that is VERY similar. To create the various shades of color on my banner, I cut out geometric shapes from different shades of blue cardstock and adhered them in a mosaic fashion along the blue banner. I hand cut the letters for the sentiment out of white cardstock and layered the letters over the mosaic background. I repeated a similar mosaic banner inside but decided not to add the white strip on the base. To add a little more texture to the front of the card, I dry embossed it with a basket weave pattern.

Geometric Shapes

I'm playing along with the current geometric shapes challenge over at Shopping Our Stash. It's one of those challenges that has me trying to narrow down what I want to do. There are just sooooo many possibilities! The focus of this card is the circles.  I created the background using an embossing folder with circle swirls and yellow cardstock. Next, I layered rectangular strips of decorative tape down the left hand side. The green tape with numerals is from a new roll that I just purchased. I'm currently really drawn to decorative tape and can't seem to get enough of it.  After punching black and yellow circles of various sizes, I layered them and adhered them to the embossed mat. I finished by adding more tape to the top and bottom of a cardbase and then adhered the mat with all the circles to the cardbase.

Tumbling Blocks Revisited

Tumbling Squares is the current sketch challenge over at The Sketch File. Kathy's created a clever and fun sketch. I hope you'll stop by The Sketch File                to see what Kate and Kathy have created! I'm sure you'll be inspired and we'd love to see your creation. Kathy's rotated the sketch and provided two sketches to inspire us. Which one inspires you?



For my card, I used both punched circles and decorative slides. Remember those slides that were popular many years ago? Well, I still have a stash so I put them to use.  I kept my color palette the same as the circles on the slides and used a MS Word document to print the sentiment on a piece of cardstock that I adhered behind the center slide. This was a pretty simple card to put together and I love the movement the squares and circles create.

Tea Time

Kathy's April sketch is still up and ready to use over at The Sketch File and you still have time to join us. I hope my card will inspire you to play along.   I rotated her sketch to create my card. I use a die to create the clock image, added hands and then hand cut and decorated a small tea pot that I layered on two borders created with rick rack.  I wrote the "Tea Time" sentiment with a gel pen and decorated it before adhering it to the card.  Since this card also includes "numbers" I'm submitting it to the challenge over at Shopping Our Stash. The current challenge is "All About Numbers".
