One More!

This is my second card for the sketch challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown. I inked four white squares with blue ink, creating a sky then added stamped trees. I mounted each square on black cardstock and adhered them to a cardbase. For the center piece, I decided to keep the "tree" theme going and created a wreath with punched boughs. I layered the wreath onto a white circle and mounted the white circle and wreath onto a blue circle, then a larger black circle. On the inside edge of the blue circle, I punched small squares and then threaded a piece of embroidery thread though the squares. I added gems and a bow to the wreath and printed the sentiment onto an inked banner.

Santa

A few scraps, a great sketch and a wee bit of time was all that I needed to pull this Christmas card together. The sketch is from 52 Christmas Card Throwdown.  I began by punching a green circle and then used a holly punch to punch around the inside edge. I adhered this to a white circle.  I printed and colored in a Santa image and layered it over the green and white circles. I adhered Santa over green scrap pieces of patterned paper that I cut into squares and added a quick stitch line with a marker.

One More Christmas Card!

One more Christmas card for my growing pile of holiday cards! Thanks to the wonderful sketch at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown this card came together quickly. Right away, I decided to rotate the sketch.  I started by cutting an oval in the patterned paper, then punched the boughs for the tree. I layered the boughs over a trunk cut from brown cardstock that I inked. I added pearls and a star then finished the card with the decorative border strip, which also included a stitched strip in the center.

Shades of Green

The inspiration for this card came from three different challenges. The layout is based on the sketch challenge at Jingle Belles. I've also used shades of green for the color palette, which is the current color challenge over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown. Lastly,  I'm playing along with the WASHI tape technique challenge over at Just Us Girls. I don't often have a chance to combine so many challenges but these three worked very well together.

Christmas Lights: All Tied Up

This month 52 (Christmas) Card Throwdown and Winter Wonderland share the same embellishment theme. It's TWINE (and/or ribbon at Winter Wonderland)!   So, for my card I used twine as one of the focal points and a string of Christmas lights as the other focal point. I've had this strip of stickers with Christmas lights for a very long time. To brighten the lights, I  began by applying glitter over the lights, then adhered twine to represent the electrical cord. I trimmed around the lights and cord and "draped" the lights through punched pine boughs that I inked. The white cardstock mat was a bit flat, so I inked around the edges and rounded the corners with a punch. To tie things up,  I added three layers of twine and a twine bow.

Santa Hat: Ho, Ho, Ho

RED & WHITE is the May color challenge over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown. When I think of Christmas and the colors red and white, Santa is among the top images. So with red cardstock in hand, I folded it in half to create a cardbase and hand cut a Santa hat shape from it.  I added some polyfil to represent the fur and hand cut the Ho Ho Ho. It seemed a bit flat so I attached the three red bows. Next I cut a white cardstock base, also in the shape of the Santa hat and printed Merry Christmas on it before adhering it to the inside.

Season's Greetings

I saw the punched embellishment challenge over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown, so I grabbed my pine cone punch and punched three pine cones. To add dimension I punched small circles from the same brown cardstock that I had used for the pine cones. Next I layered and adhered the small circles over the punched cone image. Once the adhesive was dry, I used a brown ink pad and brushed it across the pine cones. This added some dimension but not quite enough. I ended up adhering the cones to the cardbase with dimensional adhesive. This achieved the look I wanted. Then I punched pine boughs and adhered them above the cones. To make the cones pop, I added the bright red ribbon and finished by writing the sentiment.    Sorry about the quality of the photo. I was hoping to get a better photo, but the sun isn't making an appearance today. Believe it or not we are under a winter storm warning and  already have several inches of SPRING snow. It doesn't look at all like spring out there!

This is a photo of the pine cone before I added the small circles. It looked so very flat even though the cardstock was textured.

Peace on Earth

Christmas Animals is the current challenge at 52 (Christmas) Card Throwdown.  This time I created handmade sheep. I cut them from white cardstock and added detail with colored pencils and a marker. Then I stamped the fence image. It wasn't wide enough so I drew a few more posts and finished all of the fence with colored pencil and ink.  I punched pine branches and adhered them in a ring to create a wreath and added the pearls and bow. To create the snow on the ground I tore white cardstock and used a gel pen to create the flakes in the sky. I also sprayed the card with shimmer mist.

Have a Holly Jolly Christmas

This is my second card today. This one has a felt focal point and is for the felt challenge over at 52 (Christmas) Card Throwdown. I hand cut the holly leaves and berries from felt, then used my Fiskar's Fuse to die cut the white felt background. I adhered the leaves to the felt, then adhered the white felt to the green mat. Next I punched holes in the green cardstock along the edge of the white felt.  I finished by writing "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas!" inside.

Merry Wishes Triple Stamped

This morning I tried a new technique: triple stamping. I had seen this technique used on several cards and had wanted to try it but never got around to it. When I noticed that the technique challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown is to use this triple stamping technique, I knew it was time to give it a try.  Since I am not a big stamper, my selection of stamps is pretty limited. However, I did have this snowflake stamp and I put it to use after watching Dawn Olchefske's tutorial. (If you haven't seen this technique, you should watch the video. Dawn explains it very well and provides measurements to make it sooooo easy.)  This was a fun and easy technique and I imagine I will be using it again and again.

Aluminum Foil Snowflake

I discovered yet another fabulous blog. It's called 52 (Christmas) Cart Throwdown. The current color challenge is purple, metallic silver and white. So I put together this card with the large silver snowflake as a focal point.  I used two shades of purple and a white cardbase.  To create the silver snowflake, I adhered aluminum foil to cardstock and ran this through my die cut machine. It embossed and cut beautifully. I added purple gems to the snowflake and layered the snowflake on a piece of purple vellum. The background is a punched background that I adhered to a white cardbase.
