Something Old...Something New

Do you need a wonderful challenge to start the New Year? If so, how about hopping over to the Jingle Belles blog. The current challenge is Something Old...Something New. I love it!  I started by hauling out a new Christmas gift from my husband. He gave me a copy of a book called Uber Origami by Duy Nguyen. He thought I might be able to use some of the origami designs on my cards. So I used the new book to create the tree for this card...BUT let me just tell you that the tree was NOT the first design I tried. I had envisioned folding a lovely origami cardinal, which I attempted to fold over and over again and finally after about an hour tossed it aside. I ended up creating the tree as it looked like an easier design. The truth is, I am going to need a lot more practice if I intend to master the art of origami.  The "old" on my card is the designer paper. When I first started scrapbooking and paper crafting many years ago, I purchased a package of Christmas paper from Oriental Trading. Since I still have it, I thought it would be fitting to use on this card.

Supplies: Cardbase: Recollections, Designer Paper: Oriental Trading, Uber Origami by Duy Nguyen, Metallic Thread, Darice Embossing folder, Bazzill Cardstock, Scotch ATG, Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive.

  1. Origami does take some practice (and I find scoring with my score board helps some too with more intricate designs) ... what a thoughtful gift and lovely holiday card design ... so very glad you joined us as we celebrate the old & the new at Jingle Belles.

  2. i *LOVE* that your husband was thinking of cool new skills to enhance your already considerable card-making chops! that shows a guy who is really paying attention! (ps: i have no doubt you will be mastering cardinals and quite possibly intricate snowflakes before the year's end, lol!) absolutely LOVE the tree, the snowybackground, the fab use of those still very cool older papers... as usual, you've ROCKED this on every front! happy 2014, missus, we're so pleased you're hanging out with us at JINGLE BELLES! :)

  3. Kudos to the hubster for being supportive and all, and kudos to you for attempting something new! Great card - it has a sort of "heritage" look to it, while still being very fresh - love it!

  4. I love how your tree turned out. The garland is such nice touch. I love origami - looks like you're having fun with that too, even though it can be a little frustrating sometimes. Keep at it.
